LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department is ramping up traffic enforcement throughout the summer.
Police reported Friday that there will be more patrol cars on the roads this weekend, along with more strict enforcement of speeding violations, seat belt violations, driving under the influence, distracted driving and other traffic violations.
“The Kaua‘i Police Department is proud of all our graduating seniors, and while this is a time for celebration, we should always remember that safety should always come first,” said Deputy Chief Stan Olsen in a Friday release. “Parents, please explain the dangers of drinking and driving to your children. One conversation could save their life and the lives of others.”
This more-stringent traffic enforcement will continue throughout the summer, to a lesser extent, KPD said.
“There are plans for increased enforcement throughout the summer, but more so this weekend,” KPD Investigative Services Bureau Assistant Chief Bryson Ponce. “We just want the kids to be safe.”
