LIHU‘E — Tropic Care Kaua‘i 2022 is nearly here, and the community is getting excited about the offering of no-cost health care services to the community from June 13 through June 20.
The Hawai‘iUSA Federal Credit Union team headed by Taylor Shigemoto is one of those community partners who presented a financial contribution to the program earmarked for the Tropic Care Appreciation event.
The Kaua‘i District Health Office, and the County of Kaua‘i are honored to host Tropic Care Kaua‘i 2022, a medical Innovative Readiness Training mission presented through the U.S. Department of Defense.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with our Armed Services and volunteers for the much-anticipated return of Tropic Care Kaua‘i,” said Lauren Guest, the Kaua‘i Deputy District Health Officer. “The COVID-19 pandemic posed hardships for many in our community, and we are thankful to be able to increase access to health care services during this IRT mission.”
When doors to the main clinics open on June 13, it will mark the first Tropic Care since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the program due to travel restrictions. It is the fifth time the medical IRT program will be offering no-cost medical services to the people of Kaua‘i.
Through the main clinics located at the ‘Ele‘ele Elementary School, the Kaua‘i Community College, and the Kapa‘a Middle School, people on Kaua‘i are able to receive no cost services on a first-come, first-served basis, including physical examinations, eye examinations, and dental examinations, including fillings and extractions.
These services are available between 8 a.m. through 4 p.m., daily with the exception of June 19 and 20 when all of the clinics will close at noon.
Additionally, there will be an outreach clinic scheduled for the Kilauea Elementary School from June 13 through 15, and the Waimea Easter Seals building from June 17, 18, and 20.
Individuals visiting the clinics are asked to bring water, snacks, eye glasses, and a list of current prescriptions. Because service is available on a first-come, first-served basis, there may also be wait times.
“We anticipate a high turnout for the event, given the need for these services across the island,” Guest said. “Mahalo to our active and reserve military partners. We would like to express our sincerest gratitude for their contributions to improving health on Kaua‘i.”
To aid and facilitate access to the Tropic Care Kaua‘i medical services, the Kaua‘i Bus fixed route services throughout the island will be free of charge from June 13 through 20, the period of time Tropic Care Kaua‘i services are being offered.
