LIHU‘E — Thursday was the first day the Hawai‘i Disability Rights Center hosted the voter registration center, and made its mark on at least three voters.
“This election is quite important,” said Kristyl Kim of the Hawai‘i Disability Rights Center who visited Kaua‘i from O‘ahu. “We just want to ensure that as many people who want to vote can have access to the process.”
The voter registration fair is being held in partnership with Children with Special Health Care Needs, Kaua‘i Self-Advocacy Advisory Council, and the Hawai‘i State Council on Developmental Disabilities on Friday and Saturday at the Kukui Grove Center near the Kaua‘i ‘Ohana Resource Kiosk located near the Small Fry store.
“This voter registration fair is to assist individuals with developmental disabilities to understand that they have the right to vote, and to assist them with registering to vote,” said Amelia Kyewich-Kaneholani, the Kaua‘i program specialist for the Hawai‘i State Council on Developmental Disabilities.
The Hawai‘i Disability Rights Center is also able to provide information and services to families and individuals about individualized education plans, accessibility, health care directives, power of attorney, advocacy and emergency preparedness.
