This was the week to meet up with the credit unions (yes, I know, Myrvie Buster of Garden Island Federal Credit Union - it’s Rockstar time with Back to School Bash even if school doesn’t let out for another two weeks!) who almost all presented scholarships to deserving graduating high school seniors. Our perennial Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Tiffany Sagucio works for the GIFCU (any interested contestants can see Nancy Apalla — they were putting up signs at Rose’s Pinoy Favorites — or any of the Kaua‘i Filipino Community Council leaders to get signed up for the pageant coming up in June).

Ivory Lloyd of the Kaua‘i Federal Credit Union (if you want to know what it used to be called, check the ATM face) usually spends her day on the North Shore, but Wednesday was in Lihu‘e to congratulate the Kaua‘i SBA Award winners (congratulations, Lori and Craig Koga of Tanaka Store, and Brianna Greer of LEI of Kaua‘i!) as well as distribute scholarships…kudos, Kaua‘i FCU Scholarship Committee on foregoing the luncheon and presenting two additional scholarships…definitely a good decision.
Okay, Sgt. Major Ian Versammy of the Kapa‘a High School JROTC, did you get to check out the layout for the Kaua‘i Community College in-person commencement? Yes, it’s tonight!
And so is the opening for the Kaua‘i Society of Artists 4th Annual Washed Up Marine Debris Art Show, co-sponsored by the Surfrider Foundation, at the KSA gallery at the Kukui Grove Center.
For those who aren’t into graduation, Coach Mac Pigott opens the spring season of Westside Wrestling (yes, high school and Open divisions) with matches at the Kaua‘i High School cafeteria starting at 5 p.m.
