Garven, wielding a “pitching wedge from Heaven,” holed the 129-yard Po‘ipu Bay No. 7 in the stiff cold winds blowing off the Kipu mountains.
“He took away my greenie,” said Carol Pratt, who was playing the wahine five-some ahead of Garven’s foursome. “I was on the green first, but he took that away.”
Sharron Weber, playing in the five-some, said she went to look, and found the ball in the hole.
“Someone hit the flag,” she said. “But when I went to look, there was the ball, sitting in the hole, just like the last time.”
Weber said this was Garven’s first hole-in-one.
“There were 21 of us playing Po‘ipu with the Lihu‘e Business Association’s once-a-month play,” Weber said. “This was the first time we were playing Po‘ipu because the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce golf tournament is going to be played here Sunday.”
Registration for that tournament starts at 6:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
