The concerts of Hawaiian music with guest hula dancers are Friday, May 13 at 6 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center, and Saturday, May 14 at 5 p.m. at Waimea Plantation Cottages. The Waimea concert is outdoors, and attendees are advised to bring their own chairs.
The pandemic changed a lot of things, from the community singing group’s practice venue to its numbers of choristers and even the return to in-person rehearsals.
In the spring of 2020, the chorale, under the baton of S. Morris Wise, artistic director, was preparing for a return trip to New York City, to perform an ensemble of Hawaiian music with other groups from around the country, practicing in the Island School main hall in Puhi.
The chorale, then under the direction of Lois Ricciardi, performed “Carmina Burana” with choral groups from around the country at Lincoln Center to a sold-out audience earlier.
Na Leo O Hawai‘i is the title of this weekend’s concerts, subtitled ‘Olelo Hawai‘i Choral Music.
While there are no admission fees, donations will be accepted.
Since 1963 the Kaua‘i Chorale has been presenting choral music concerts on the Garden Island. Kaua‘i Chorale is a not-for-profit organization funded in part by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, as well as members’ dues, ticket sales and contributions.
