Kaua‘i resident and wetlands expert Helen Raine is the speaker at the Kaua‘i Climate Action Forum. The title is “How Wetlands Can Keep Us Dry.”
Climate change has arrived in Hawai‘i, seen on Kaua‘i with the recent floods.
Raine will explain how wetlands actually prevent flooding, drawing from case studies at Hanalei and the Mana Plain near Kekaha, and will share current work on Moloka‘i. Her presentation will show how wetlands operate in each of Kaua‘i’s watersheds to soften storms’ impacts.
She is the Hawai‘i conservation coordinator for the Pacific Birds Habitat Joint Venture. She lives in Kalaheo with her husband and two children.
The free Kaua‘i Climate Action Forums are held monthly as a collaborative effort by Surfrider Foundation Kaua‘i, Kaua‘i Climate Action Coalition and Zero Waste Kaua‘i.
