Teacher Appreciation Day is today, and Teacher Appreciation Week runs through Friday, May 6.
Kaua‘i lost little time in expressing its appreciation for Kaua‘i’s teachers, with Teacher Appreciation Week events taking place around the island.
All this week, teachers showing their school identification cards are entitled to free hot coffee and iced coffee from McDonald’s of Hawai‘i as its way to thank educators for nurturing and championing the next generation of leaders.
“McDonald’s proudly supports teachers who are so important in educating and preparing our keiki and young adults for a bright future,” said McDonald’s Owner/Operator Miles Ichinose.
“Many of our crew members are high school and college students who are very well prepared for the workplace thanks to the sacrifice and commitment by Hawai‘i teachers.”
The free brew offer is good once a day per person, all day at either the drive-thru or in the restaurant, through Saturday, May 7.
There is no purchase necessary.
Teachers and educators were treated to a free car wash Sunday at the Kukui Grove Center parking lot through the collaborative efforts of the Kaua‘i U.S. Army Recruiting Station and KGC.
“We had representatives from the Kapa‘a High School JROTC, Waimea High School JROTC, the Kaua‘i High School future soldiers (Kaua‘i High School does not have a JROTC unit), and the Civil Air Patrol helping to wash cars,” said Sgt. Minji Hwang of the U.S. Army.
“We’ll also be dropping off the collection of Teacher Appreciation Day materials (school supplies) to the Kumu’s Cupboard for Kaua‘i’s teachers on Teacher Appreciation Day,” she said.
Sgt. Ryan Fussell Hwang have been maintaining a collection booth at the weekly Monday Pau Hana Market at KGC, where people have had the opportunity to contribute to Teacher Appreciation Day.
Additionally, the U.S. Army Recruiting Station Kaua‘i, located at KGC near Kaua‘i Bakery, is accepting nominations from high school students at Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i and Waimea high schools for outstanding teachers and educators.
