HONOLULU — The Nareit Foundation is inviting Hawai‘i nonprofits to submit grant applications seeking support of affordable housing programs.
The deadline is July 15. Grants will be announced starting in September, and awarded later this year through the Foundation’s Nareit Hawai‘i Community Giving Initiative. Funding for the grants is provided by donations from REITs (real estate investment trusts) operating in Hawai‘i.
Since establishing the Nareit Hawai‘i Community Giving Initiative in November 2018, the foundation has awarded nearly $1.4 million in grants to support nonprofit housing programs on Kaua‘i, Maui, Moloka‘i, Hawai‘i Island and O‘ahu.
“We’re inspired by the commitment nonprofit groups are making to provide affordable housing solutions and are proud to support their efforts with grants that are helping to put families into new homes,” said Gladys Quinto Marrone, executive director of Nareit Hawai‘i.
Grant applicants should be implementing projects that provide affordable housing for sale or rent.
Grant funds are not intended for planning. Organizations with “shovel-ready” projects or needing to make land purchases for such projects will receive priority.
All applicants must fill out the electronic application form on the Nareit Hawai‘i website, nareithawaii.com/reits-give-back/ and submit them via e-mail to info@nareithawaii.com. Nareit Hawai‘i represents the interests of REITs in Hawai‘i and their participation in civic, community and policy initiatives.
