Excitement over the Kaua‘i Museum Walter and Irmalee Pomroy Lei Contest is definitely in the air. The Kaua‘i Museum presents the contest on May 1 at the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort Lihu‘e.
Mayette Loseto, one of the vendors at the Grove Farm Market, said she’ll be doing a Making a Lei workshop on Tuesday, April 26, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Safeway store in Hokulei Village Shopping Center in Puhi, using whatever is available from the Safeway floral department. She just wants more lei makers to get involved with the excitement.
Christine Coyaso (you knew the weather was less than sunny because Mini Me was snug under the truck) adjusted the days and times the Vietnamese Cuisine Lihu‘efood truck is open, on Kuhio Highway next to McDonald’s in Lihu‘e, so she could return to the Grove Farm Market in Puhi Saturdays with some of the offerings from the food truck, like bihn mi, a new version of mochi doughnuts. And how about Viet coffee?
Lei maker Antonia Loomis was thrilled to be able to present the lei she learned how to make from West Kaua‘i Lion Kay Hill Sunday when U.S. Rep. Kai Kahele surprised everyone when he showed up with his family to participate in the Kekaha Community Egg Hunt on Easter morning at H.P. Faye Park in Kekaha.
Kahele said this was his final stop before heading home to Hilo on Hawai‘i Island for the rest of Easter. But he couldn’t leave because the fried rice came late, and all the West Kaua‘i Lions had to make sure the congressman had a taste of the fried rice.
Congratulations to the Kekaha community, including the West Kaua‘i Lions, E Ola Mau, Kekaha Agriculture, which got lots of help from the Waimea High School JROTC, the Menehune Leo Club, the Scouts from Troop 334 (isn’t that the Holy Cross group?), and hope the congressman got some cuppy cakes.
