LIHU‘E — Kapa‘a pitcher Kaia Davis-Caberto picked up the Warrior 11-1 win by limiting Kaua‘i High School bats to just three hits for one run Wednesday night during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation contest that was played before a nice-sized audience enjoying the evening quietness of Isenberg Park.
On the other side of the ball, Davis-Caberto led the Lady Warrior bats by scoring once, getting two hits with one run driven home.
Overall, Kapa‘a bats found nine hits for its 11 runs against Red Raider pitcher Karlee-Rose Keale who went the distance for Kaua‘i.
Leading 6-0 following five complete innings, Kapa‘a put away the game in the sixth inning by cranking in five runs on four hits to shorten the contest because of the 10-run ruling.
Kaua‘i stayed alive with its most active inning in the contest that was started with pitcher Karlee-Rose doubling and advancing on a Jei Li Rosare-Yadao single with no outs. With two outs, Daelynn Keale walked on a full count. But the scoring potential ended with three runners left on base as the batter struck out.
Following the five-run, Kapa‘a charged in the sixth, Kaua‘i put a runner on base with two outs as Jadyn Naka‘ahiki got aboard on a Warrior miscue. She was also left on base as the final out came on an infield fly.
Karlee-Rose, in taking the loss on the mound, gave up nine hits for Kapa‘a’s 11 run, striking out six Lady Warrior hitters while walking five.
Rosare-Yadao, scoring Kaua‘i’s sole run in. the fourth inning, topped the Raider hitting with two hits, the third hit coming off Karlee-Rose’s bat.
Following Davis-Caberto’s hitting, Kapa‘a got RBI hits from Savanna Simons who drove in two RBI on her hit, Makena Kupihea. Kailee Gorospe was credited for an RBI, and Warriors Hailey Gibson, Tira Ann Kaui, Seijia Makanai and Rhea Furtado all marked hits.
With the win, Kapa‘a faces a critical showdown with Waimea during a double-header at the Waimea Canyon Park. The re-scheduled game due to Kapa‘a High School hosting its prom starts with the first pitch going off starting at 3:30 p.m. followed by the nightcap starting following a 30-minute break at the end of the first contest.
