LIHU‘E — Island School runner Ella Offley controlled the girls 100-meter dash, tripping the clock at 13.06 seconds and shaving off .34 second off her previous run Thursday during the 75th Rotary Track meet at Vidinha Stadium.
Offley came back to top the girls 200 dash on a 28.09 run, and was a member of the Voyager girls’ 4×400 relay, where the Voyagers were outdone by the Kaua‘i High Red Raider wahine, who took the event by just three ticks. She rounded out the evening with a second-place finish in the girls long jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches.
These are the kinds of performances that led the Island School girls to finish the meet in first place with 160.33 points, followed by the Kapa‘a High with 127 points. Kaua‘i High collected 93 points, and Waimea High School girls finished with 77.67 points.
Kapa‘a’s Kanoe Haneberg topped the girls long jump at 15 feet, 10 inches, but relinquished her top finish in the girls 100 hurdles to fellow Warrior Kassy Ell, who stopped the event clock at 18.79, a big improvement from her 19.14 previous run. Haneberg finished the event in fifth place, still collecting points, at 20.79 run, slower than her earlier 19.40 pace.
Jodi Woodward made her showing for Kapa‘a by topping the girls discus and shot put events.
Waimea’s Kendra Knapp topped the girls high jump on a 4-foot, 6-inch leap, and the girls 300 hurdles, where she upset Voyager Liko Edwards, the winner of previous events, on a 51.93 run, an improvement of her seeded 52.79 run.
Kaua‘i High’s distance running girls, Emma Burgess and Kamaira Silva, led the Red Raider wahine by topping the girls 1,500, 800 400 individual events and were part of the winning girls 4×400 relay team. Burgess also topped the 3,000 run with a time of 11:47.68, just about a second better than her previous showing.
The Waimea High School boys controlled the meet to pull out first place at 125.50 points, followed by Kaua‘i High, which finished with 115 points. The Kapa‘a High boys were next with 113 points, and the Island School boys finished with 110.50 points.
Kaua‘i High’s Nakoa Andrade shook up the boys 100 dash with a first finish over Waimea’s Jaiden Sams at 11.79 over Sams’ 11.80 sprint. Andrade’s finish was an improvement over his previous 12.26 run, and Sams also posted an improvement over his previous 11.98 run.
Waimea’s 4×100 relay team, including Lindcey Constantino, Shawn Parraga, Joey Sams and Jaiden Sams, edged out the Kaua‘i High A team on a 46.08 run.
Kapa‘a’s Dominic Angrade shaved off nearly three seconds off his first finish in the boys 800 run at 2:13.77, and Chase Capelli was nearly two seconds ahead of his seeded time on his 24.88 run in the boys 200 dash, where he finished third under the Menehune’s Sams brothers Joey and Jaiden.
Bruno Likio topped the boys discus on a toss of 103 feet, 4 inches, and finished second in the boys shot put on a placement of 36 feet, 2 inches, for second place under Waimea’s Jeremiah Harper, who threw it 38 feet, 2.5 inches.
Island School runner Christian Carrington gave fellow team mate Avinash Srikanth a tough time during the boys 400 dash. Running the event for the first time, Carrington pulled out a run of 57.28 seconds to beat our Srikanth, who stopped the clocks at 57.82, shaving .07 second off his previous 57.89 performance.
The KIF qualifying track and field meet is Thursday, with the first events going from 4:30 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
