LIHU‘E — The Waimea High School baseball team shut down Kaua‘i High School 10-0 Saturday to claim Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation first round baseball honors.
According to statistics from scoringlive.com, both teams were at 5-1 in the standings following Waimea’s 6-5 edge over Island School in extra innings on March 26, the final contest of the first round.
Playing before a crowded Vidinha Stadium that shared Kaua‘i Youth Football games with the baseball playoff, Waimea struck early, putting five runs on the board before the third inning. The Menehune added another five runs to shut down the contest in five innings based on the 10-run ruling.

The KIF will start round 2 on Wednesday when the Waimea junior varsity visits Kaua‘i High in a single game starting at 6 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
The first varsity contest of round 2 is Friday with a doubleheader when Kaua‘i, now 5-2, takes on Island School at Vidinha Stadium. The opening game pitch goes at 4 p.m. followed by the second contest starting after a 30-minute break at the conclusion of the first game.
First round title holder Waimea will visit the Ron Martin Field in Kapa‘a Saturday for a doubleheader against the Warriors. First pitch goes at 10 a.m.
