Jean Souza (do those temporary humpback whale tattoos count for Ocean Count?) was pleased to learn she did not miss out on the county’s free COVID test giveaways that start today at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center, and continue until Friday.
Jean was busy helping at the Kukui Grove Center and Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau’s salute to National Agriculture Week (yes, climate change affects the ocean, too!) where the word “temporary” was a key selling point for those free tattoos. Kudos to Melissa McFerrin-Warrack and Laurie Ho and the many (!!!) hands that helped people become engaged in something more than wearing face masks!
Sue Okada said Mark Oyama and the chefs are ready to have the annual American Culinary Federation Breakfast (yes, we missed Februrary again this year!), and Kaua‘i Community College just got word on in-person commencement for this year.
Melissa said the Koloa Plantation Days rodeo and run are a go for this year, and more people are coming out to try and make the big parade and ho‘olaule‘a at the Anne Knudsen Park a reality in July. Stay tuned for more details. Just stay healthy and safe. Ada Koene is chomping at the bit; she wants it to happen, Melissa said.
In the meantime, check out the new Lu‘au Ka Hikina at the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort in Waipouli. And there’s a girls softball playoff game Wednesday between Waimea and Kapa‘a high schools for the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation first-round crown. First pitch goes off at 3 p.m. at the Kapa‘a High diamond.
