PRINCEVILLE — There will be a right-lane closure on Kuhio Highway in the southbound direction near mile marker 27.3, Kapaka Street, Monday through Thursday, March 21 to 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree-trimming.
Tree-trimming will also result in possible lane closures in either direction of Kuhio Highway near mile marker 28.1, Emmalani Drive, Monday through Friday, March 21 to 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will be no daytime roadwork scheduled on Friday, March 25, in observance of Prince Kuhio Day, unless permitted. Kuhio Highway special-use lanes, including Wailua corridor contraflow, will not be operational.
All work, whether county or state, is weather-permitting.
Kilauea
• A single-lane closure on Kuhio Highway in both directions between mile markers 19 and 21.6, Kapuna Road and Wailapa Road, takes place from Tuesday through Friday, March 22 to 25, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., for road reconstruction and resurfacing;
Wailua
• A right-shoulder closure and narrowed lanes of Kuhio Highway in the southbound direction between mile markers 5.7 and 6.7, in the vicinity of Leho Drive and the Kapa‘a bypass road, takes place Tuesday through Friday, March 22 to 25, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for road and shoulder work;
Kapa‘a
• Portions of Mailihuna and Kawaihau roads will be closed from Monday through Thursday, March 21 to 24, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. In observance of the Prince Kuhio Day holiday, there is no construction work on March 25, according to the county Department of Public Works and Grace Pacific LLC. Additionally, the makai driveway to Kapa‘a High School’s athletic field may experience temporary closures. The periodic, one-lane road closures are necessary for sidewalk construction, grade wall construction and roadway excavation. Koloa
• Po‘ipu Road, from Koloa Road to Waikomo Road, will be closed Monday through Thursday, March 21 to 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., DPW and its contractor Maui Kupuno Builders said. The closure is necessary for road-resurfacing work. Po‘ipu Road will be closed to southbound traffic between Koloa Road and Waikomo Road. Only northbound traffic will be allowed through the work zone at this time. To bypass the closure, motorists traveling southbound from Koloa Road may take either Weliweli Road and Waikomo Road or Ala Kalanikaumaka and Lopaka Paipa Boulevard. During school drop-off times, both lanes will be open. Crews will shut down southbound traffic at 8:30 a.m. During school pick-up times, only the northbound lane will be open. Motorists coming from the north may access Po‘ipu Road via Waikomo Road and Ala Kalanikaumaka and Lopaka Paipa Boulevard. • Po‘ipu Road will be under short lane closures from Monday, March 21 to April 15, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to the DPW and Pacific Concrete Cutting and Coring, Inc. In observance of the Prince Kuhio Day holiday, there will be no work on Friday, March 25. No road work will occur during the peak traffic times for school drop-off and pick-up. The scope of the work includes improvements to pedestrian access to the school, including new sidewalks, crosswalks and ADA ramps.
