Nanci Jeanne Lewis
Nanci Jeanne Lewis, born December 24, 1935, was the only child of Constant and Lois Getschine. She grew up in Pasadena, CA. She loved her Morgan horse Black Beauty, being in Girl Scouts and fishing trips with her parents to Lake Arrowhead. She attended University of California Berkeley for 2 years, where she pledged the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, then studied Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern California, graduating in 1957. After graduation in June 1957, Nanci took an internship in Honolulu, Hawaii at Tripler Naval Hospital while Norm was attending Navy flight school in Pensacola, FL. They married in November 1957 and moved to Kansas where Norm was completing Advanced Flight Training.
Nanci and Norm were married for 64 years and raised 4 children- Janis, Kay, Jon and Joy- while moving around the world with duty stations in Washington, Virginia, Canada, Japan, Florida and Hawai‘i, where they raised their children. In all of these places, Nanci was the rock of the family, an active Navy community volunteer, Red Cross swim instructor, and Girl Scout leader. While living on Kaua‘i she was honored as Navy Wife of the Year. Norm and Nanci enjoyed playing tennis, sailing and traveling. Nanci was active in Girl Scouting with her daughters, Janis, Kay and Joy, and Little League with her son, Jon Lewis. Nanci and Norm raised their children on the west side of Kaua‘i where they attended Kekaha Elementary, Waimea Canyon and Waimea High School. During that time, Nanci was an Occupational Therapist for Easter Seals and a hostess at Wrangler’s Restaurant. She was also a substitute teacher at Waimea High -primarily in the Science dept. Nanci was an avid tennis player and participated in the weekly round robin at Poipu Kai. Nanci drove them all over the island in her red VW bus.
She was her children’s greatest cheerleader and, then later, went on to cheer on her 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Her encouragement and support were not limited to family. Nanci and Norm had 19 years of active retired life as residents at The White Sands of La Jolla where they spent many hours looking out at their beloved ocean.
Nanci also worked for Cruise Holidays and The Tierrasanta Tennis Club. Norm and Nanci were long time active members of La Jolla Presbyterian Church, serving as Elders and Deacons and organized and led multiple service trips to Gleanings for the Hungry in Dinuba, CA. Nanci was a quilter with Circle 8 making dozens of quilts for mission projects.
A Celebration of Life will be held at La Jolla Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 19 at 3:00pm. A Reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall Room 1.
Herbert Santana Banua
Herbert Santana Banua passed away on Feb. 13, 2022, at the age of 89, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He was born on May 22, 1932, in Lawai, Kaua‘i. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and Data Analyst.
He was preceded in death by his father Alberto Banua, mother Cecilia Santana, brother Henry Bermoy, Sr., and sister Sally McBride.
Herbert is survived by his wife Victoria Banua, sons Carlos Banua, Aldino “Dino” (Denise) Banua, daughters Anna (Sonny) Balauro, Tina (Albert) Carbonel, Lisa (Dino) Pabre, grandchildren Emery (Stephanie) Banua, Tianna (Erik) Banua, Jace Balauro, Kyle (Ashley) Balauro, Natasha (Patrick) O’Brien, Katrina (Kimo) Farias, Alec Carbonel, Briana Banua, Corbin Banua, Dino Pabre, Jr., great-grandchildren Nevaeh Banua, Abigale Shaekley, Clara Bella Shaekley, Kaeden Quinto, Ezra Vidal, Ezlynn Vidal, Easton Scholl, Ember Balauro, Adrian Balauro, Jystin Stiles, Kanoa Farias, Kiani Farias, Aysen Farias, Briella Farias, brothers Ben Bermoy, Roland (Caroline) Banua, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service to be held on March 19, 2022, at Garden Island Mortuary. Walk-through visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. with services beginning at 11 a.m. The family request casual attire and no flowers. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required.

Dominic J. Alisna
Dominic J. Alisna of Kalaheo, Hawai‘i, peacefully passed on the evening of Feb. 16, 2022. He was born on April 24, 1958 in Lihu‘e to Domingo and Lourdes Alisna. He was a 1976 graduate of Kapa‘a High School. He Worked for County of Kaua‘i for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by mother Laurie Alisna, brother Wayne Alisna and Jordaen Alisna.
Dominic was survived by his loving wife Margie Nordmeir Alisna, five siblings, Perry (Kathy), Domingo Anthony Alisna Jr., James (Liane), Peter(Lorna), sister, Donna(Primo Jr, Ragsac), many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews across the country.
Mickey was nicknamed “Red Blazer,” liked to fish on his boat, especially loved to go dancing “Kachi Kachi” with his wife on the weekends. He is always smiling and will be missed for his caring and giving “no worry I get um” attitude. He loved playing cards with his family and enjoyed spending time with his CB radio family.

Funeral to be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with Mass following at 11 a.m. Masks are required.
Gladys Ann Obar
Gladys Ann Obar passed away on Dec. 7, 2021, at the age of 81. She was born in Hilo, Hawai‘i, on Aug. 26, 1940. She was a housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by parents Julio and Anitra Rodrigues, husband Bartolome Obar, son Russell Obar, brothers William Rodrigues and Thomas Rodrigues.
Gladys is survived by daughters Gloria Paris, Corinna (Mark) Gardner, Dezeree Tay and Nichelle (Chris) Obar, son Jaime (Claudean) Obar, sisters Marie Kapoi, Clara Rodrigues,
11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m.

Wayne H. Sadamitsu
Wayne H. Sadamitsu passed away on Feb. 18, 2022, at the age of 79 in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i. He was born on Oct. 29, 1942, He was a maintenance worker and veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents Minoru and Hatsuko Sadamitsu and brother Stanley Sadamitsu.
Wayne is survived by his wife Jane Sadamitsu, sons Michael A. Arashiro of Honolulu, Daryl P. Arashiro of Las Vegas, Nevada, daughters Dena Sumida of Wailua, Lisa Dimitror of Waipahu, grandchildren Jeris, Travis and Kelson Sumida, Ash-Lee Okamoto, great-grandchildren Chavis Cutcher-Sumida, Nathan Sumida-Rapozo, Kaila Sumida, Kunia Sumida, Nyah Sumida, Kiana Sumida and Hayden Sumida, brother Richard Sadamitsu of Lihu‘e, sisters Janice Sadamitsu of San Gabriel, California, Sharon Morita (Gary) of Lihu‘e, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
