Valerie Ann Barretto-Oshita
Valerie Ann Barretto-Oshita of Kapa‘a passed away peacefully on July 8, 2021 at the age of 70. She was born on July 3, 1951 in Lihu‘e.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert F. and Dorothy I. Barretto.
Valerie is survived by her husband Marvin G. Oshita, son Wendell (Laverne) Packard of Kapa‘a, Kalani (Lauren) Barretto of Kapa‘a, grandchildren Mele, Kamaile, Kalehua, and Kali, brothers Gilbert F. (Lisa) Barretto Jr. of Wailua, Glenn M. (Linda) Barretto of Waipio Gentry, Waipahu, Patrick N. (Jennifer) Barretto of Kapa‘a, Brian S. (Shari) Barretto of Kapa‘a, sisters Joyce B. (Rick) Hernandez of Waipio Gentry, Waipahu, Debbie M. Barretto of Hanalei, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is schedule for March 26, 2022, at St. Catherine’s Church, Kapa‘a. Visitation begins at 9 to 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:15 a.m. and burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Kealia. Due to COVID-19 face masks and social distancing is required.
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Craig King
Craig King, born 1953, passed away at his home on Jan. 20, 2022. A thirty-year veteran Journeyman electrician and lineman on Kaua‘i, working for R Electric then retiring from TG Electric, Craig was an influential part in restoring power to the island after devastating hurricanes Iwa and Iniki.
Craig loved the outdoors and the ocean. An avid scuba diver, water skier, and fisherman, he truly had a love and respect for the land, sea, and natural environment. Known to his friends and family as the “Big Guy” or “Teddy Bear,” Craig’s calm and endearing demeanor was well received by everyone he encountered. A gentle giant. He was well respected and loved by many. He will be greatly missed.
Craig’s legacy is carried on by his two sons Joshua and Adam, his granddaughter Christina, daughter-in-law Michelle, along with his siblings, Judy, Mary, and Michael, nieces and nephews, and many close and dear friends.
A remembrance and celebration of Craig’s life will be held this Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the Kukuilua small boat harbor. Light food and beverages will be provided before a swim out and ashes spreading at sea.
Ernesto ‘Pete’ Aguon
Ernesto “Pete” Aguon passed away on Feb. 12, 2022, at the age of 70, in Waimea. He was born on May 15, 1951, in Guam. He was a retired Maintenance Worker.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Maria Aguon, brothers Ambrosio Aguon, Michael Aguon, father and mother-in-law Jimmy and Aloha Hookano.
Ernesto is survived by his wife Piilani Aguon of Kekaha, sons Kauhi (Kalei) Aguon of Puhi, Peter Jo (Abigail) Swaney of Colorado, Kai (Kailan) Reyes of Kalaheo, daughter Keala Aguon of Kekaha, grandchildren Dawson Morris-Aguon, Dylan Morris-Aguon, Landon Kaniho Aguon, Hinaea Reyes, Hawena Reyes, Waimea Reyes, Genesis Swaney, Goliath Swaney, Lazerius Swaney, Jasmine Swaney, brothers Johnny (Josephine) Aguon of Guam, Greg (Rosita) Aguon of Arizona, Anthony (Doris) Aguon of Guam, Frank Aguon of Guam, Vincent Aguon of Guam, Kenneth Aguon of Guam, sisters Julie Delgado of Guam, Maryann (Joe) Guzman of Guam, Margaret “Agit” (Joe) Kona of Waimea, Kauai, Angie Rabina of Washington, in-laws Pauline Kupo of Kekaha, Kaleo Hookano of Waimea and Odetta and Joe Borja of Kekaha, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A walk-through visitation will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. With a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:30 p.m. The family request casual attire and flowers are welcome. Due to COVID-19, social distancing & masks are required.
