LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School golfer Henry Anderson fired a team-low 81 to lead the Red Raider boys team to the top of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf match Saturday during the season-opening round at the Hokuala Ocean Course.
Anderson’s 81 (41-40) was the best boys individual scoring as well.
The Island School boys, led by Lucas Summerhays carding an 86 (44-42), took the boys team competition on a combined 367 strokes, 11 strokes better than Kaua‘i High, which finished the round with a combined 376. Waimea High, led by Ty Tsukayama finishing with a 97, and Kapa‘a High, led by Cody Yadao firing a 94, did not field teams.
Island School’s Emi-Lani Ebesu fired the best round of the day at 92 (47-45), but the Voyagers did not have enough female players for qualify for team scoring.
Kaua‘i High’s Hailey Arakaki fired a 95 (46-49), finishing three strokes off Ebesu’s pace, to lead the Red Raider ladies to a combined 429 strokes.
The KIF golfers meet Saturday for the second round of its season at the newly-opened Puakea Golf Course. The first groups tee off from noon.
