HONOLULU — Carlos Lang of the Island School boys soccer team was named to the Division II All-Tournament Team by the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Saturday night following the conclusion of the NIU Health Urgent Care HHSAA Division II boys soccer championships on O‘ahu.
Lang scored the Voyagers’ game-tying goal in the 20th minute against Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy in the third-place contest Saturday afternoon.
HPA went on to get a goal from Kaua‘i native Mason Hunt in the 34th minute to win the contest, 2-1, leaving Island School fourth place in the state tournament.
The Voyagers, winning their first Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation soccer title in school history, were seeded No. 2 at the tournament. HPA was seeded No. 1.
Both seeded teams were bumped from the title chase Friday when Island School dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i on a free kick by Elijah Dinkel in the second overtime.
In that game, Lang netted the go-ahead goal in the 37th minute that was matched by KS-Hawai‘i’s Kyle Derashin in the 39th minute.
On the same day, top-seeded HPA was bettered 3-1 by Seabury Hall on a hat trick by James Haynes.
During the quarterfinals Thursday against Waialua High School, Lang was one of three Voyager scorers to net two goals in the 7-2 victory. Other Voyagers finding the scorebooks included AJ Galiza, Sawyer Rogoff and Eddie Silliman.
Other members of the Division II All-Tournament team include KS-Hawai‘i’s Dinkel getting the nod for Most Outstanding. Jacob Alona of KS-Hawai‘i got the vote for goalkeeper.
