Lynette ‘Akut’ Ku‘ulei Yau Kut Niau
Lynette “Akut” Ku‘ulei Yau Kut Niau, 77, of Honolulu, a beloved mother and grandmother, fought a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer until the heavenly Father took her home.
Born on Nov. 30, 1944, to Ernest Apo Apana and Christine Aki Apao in Lihu‘e, she is a Kapa‘a High School graduate who worked in various jobs including the pineapple cannery, banking, hospitality, travel, and also owned a rental car and wireless business before retiring. She belonged to a musical family group called the Apana Sisters and sang at many events which even included being a travel ambassador with Hawaiian Airlines. She was also dedicated to serving and volunteering at her church.
She moved from Kaua‘i to O‘ahu in 2019 to obtain medical care before she passed at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by children Celine Nelsen (Jeff Wong), Stevette (Brad) Santiago, Floyd (Eva) Niau and five grandchildren, Braeden Santiago, Logan (Yana) Santiago, Nicholas Santiago, Amare Owsley and Louis Niau from Honolulu.
She is also survived by her sisters Dorna (Justin) Ginden Mahelona, (Las Vegas, Nevada) Beverly (late Ernest) Muroaka (Kapaa, Kauai), and brother Russell (Lori) Apana (Ferndale, Washington).
She is also beloved by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
O‘ahu services are Saturday, March 12, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Nuuanu Ward, 622 North Judd Street, Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Public Viewing will be at 10 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Program to follow at 11 a.m.
Kaua‘i Services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Anahola Ward Kapaa Chapel, 4561 Ohia Street, Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i. Public Viewing will be at 10 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Program to follow at 11 a.m.
Cremation to follow with final internment on Kaua‘i.
Gavino Vila Tagavilla
Gavino Vila Tagavilla, 77, of Lihu‘e, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 26, 2022. He was born in Dilavo, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Mar. 29, 1944 and retired as a Landscaper.
He was preceded in death by his parents Teodoro and Jacoba Tagavilla, sisters Marciana Tangonan, Gloria Tangonan, Eleceo Tagavilla, grandsons Jason Joson, John Paul Joson and Dave Tagavilla.
Gavino is survived by his wife Florencia Tagavilla, children Aurora (Efren) Salud, Glyceria (Jimmy) Joson, Efren (Ailene Balatico) Tagavilla, seven grandchildren Aira, Mark, Kailen, Joyce Ann, James, Reniel Jay, Jake, four great-grandchildren Jake Ryan, Jayden, Jared, Jeremiah, brother Guillermo (Catherine) Tagavilla, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Social distancing and masks will be enforced.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Alejandra ‘Andring’ James Morden
Alejandra “Andring” James Morden, 85, of Puhi, passed away in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Jan. 30, 2022. She was born in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Feb. 27, 1936. She worked and retired as a custodian of Kaua‘i High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glicerio Morden Sr. and son Felipe.
Andring is survived by her six children Gener (Carlina) Morden, Rina (Lawrence), Gally (Catherine) Morden, Jun (Edna) Morden, Gaudencio (Debra) Morden, Alma (Edwin) Oligo, 14 grandchildren Kate, Kyle, Carrie, Genee, Jomar, Casey Glycelle, Cody, Emily, Alexandra, Eyan, Aira, six great-grandchildren, sisters Remigia Baptista, Januaria Pasalo, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing form 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens. Social distancing and masks will be observed.

Monica Anohea Davis
Monica Anohea Davis passed away in Abilene, Texas, surrounded by family and friends on Jan. 17, 2022. She was born on Nov. 14, 1968, in Waimea and was an Outreach Specialist with Draco Services.
She was preceded in death by parent Richard Davis, grandparents Anderson and Sophie Kilauano, Henry Peralta Sr., William and Marilyn Mossman, and son Blaze Lopez.
Monica is survived by parents Glenn and Vida Mossman, Henry Peralta Jr., daughters Taylor Imaoka (Brian), Ashlea Cacal, grandmother Trinidad Peralta, sister Kaulana Mossman, brothers Jason Peralta (Brandy), Joshua Peralta (Darian), numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kekaha, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by services. A private burial will occur at a future date. Family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers. Due to COVID-19 and in the best interest of those in attendance, social distancing and masks are required.
