Kudos to Rowena Contrades Pagan, Kamealoha Smith and all (!!!) the Ho‘omana Thrift Store ‘ohana on launching the Mahalo Market Wednesday on the grounds of Wailua thrift shop.
Kamealoha said this is the first native-inspired farmers’ market that features everything from produce to arts and crafts, and even practitioners (Felicia Cowden even got to have a 10-minute step massage!). It’s open from 2 to 5 p.m. and, yes, on Wednesdays.
Limu practitioner Nalani Kaneakua should be happy to hear that because she is participating in the governor’s proclamation announcing this is the year of the limu. Nalani (she’s also Tutu’s Sandwich Company — wholesale only — that has its kitchens in the Anahola Marketplace) was delivering a batch of sandwiches featuring limu pepeiao to Vim ‘N Vigor on Kuhio Highway in Lihu‘e.
Vim ‘N Vigor was a bustling place in the morning because Ashley Nicole Lambert of BarryAndMe.com had her daughter and dog delivering the new two-ounce size of Mama Beans Knows Best germ cleaner (it’s very aromatic) to the store. She had the company of her sister Alex Osborne, who is visiting from San Diego, and that was reason enough to have a pit stop at Aloha Roastery (somebody said ‘They’re always busy!”), where Tryson Kaneshige was getting fuel to inspire his birthday-banner project.
