HONOLULU — A goal in second overtime edged out Island School boys soccer from the championship round, Friday at the 2022 NIU Health Urgent Care Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II boys soccer championships being contested at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on O‘ahu.
According to information from Scoring Live.com, the No. 2 seeded Voyagers were tied 1-1 at the break. The stalemate prevailed at the end of regulation to force overtime play. Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i, unseeded in the tournament, upset the balance with its goal in the second overtime.
The upsets continued Friday when unseeded Seabury Hall beat the top-seeded Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy in the second Division 2 semifinal contest played Friday.
The upset wins will pit Seabury Hall against Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i in an all-Neighbor Island fight for the Division II title starting at 5 p.m. at Radford High School on O‘ahu.
Island School will face the top-seeded HPA for third place, Saturday from 1 p.m. at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
Earlier in the tournament, Island School advanced to the semifinals on a 7-2 win over Waialua High School behind two goals scored from AJ Galiza, Carlos Lang, and Sawyer Rogoff. Eddie Silliman footed a goal for the Voyagers.
Shane Kelly answered the Voyagers’ opening goal in the fifth minute, and Makoakai Fierro scored Waialua’s second goal, with all the Waialua scoring taking place in the first half.
HPA claimed a 3-0 shutout over Roosevelt behind two goals from Aidan Santos and a net from Tau Khabele in the quarterfinals to advance to the semis.
