WAILUA — A black Kia Soul was still wrapped in caution tape and strewn on the side of Kuhio Highway between north and south Leho Drive early Friday afternoon following a two-car accident that left it totaled the previous day.
WAILUA — A black Kia Soul was still wrapped in caution tape and strewn on the side of Kuhio Highway between north and south Leho Drive early Friday afternoon following a two-car accident that left it totaled the previous day.
The windshield is cracked and the passenger’s side door juts forward at an awkward angle. The driverside door has been fully sheared from its hinges along with much of the front left side of the car with pieces of its engine resting on the grass.
Police reported that the owners of the vehicle are responsible for having the car towed.
The Kaua‘i Police Department received a report of the collision at 5:11 p.m. Thursday, which involved the Kia and silver Ford Mustang.
According to a preliminary report, the Mustang, heading northbound, crossed the center-line and collided with the Kia.
The driver of the Kia sustained injuries and was transported to Wilcox Medical Center for further treatment, while the operator of the Mustang did not report any injury and refused medical treatment on scene.
Northbound traffic on Kuhio Highway was temporarily directed onto South Leho Drive and southbound traffic on Kuhio Highway was directed onto the northbound lane to bypass the scene.
Around 6:25 p.m. Thursday, both lanes of the highway were reopened.
The preliminary report does not indicate that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
