Happy birthdays to Taylor, Tyron, Candice, and T-Jay Shigemoto, who were celebrating their birthdays on Feb. 28 in Las Vegas. Taylor needs to be home by Read Across America this Saturday, when HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union is helping sponsor the literary event at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.

Sheila Bradbury of USBorne Books and More will be there (Dr. Seuss hat? No?) with a book sale to benefit Kumu’s Cupboard (happy fifth anniversary, Elysse Litvack and volunteer ‘ohana!). Who is going to be the celebrity reader?
Are there any good books on air plants to go along with the plant swap on Kress Street in Lihu‘e?
Donya McKnight of Little McFarm had a mess of different air plants (honest, they have no roots!) to enhance the planters and containers she creates using concrete — looks like ceramics. And for that lady who was not prepared, hopefully they’ll still have more dragonfruit (do you know how to tell the different colors apart?). Even Krystl Apeles of Alakoko Store was there for some of the excitement.
OK, Girl Scout cookie flavors are starting to run low. Troop 008 sold so many cookies, all they have are two flavors remaining after a U.S. Marine bought Sadie Stiglmeier’s last box of Girl Scouts S’mores Sunday at the retail booth at Times Super Market in Lihu‘e.
Check gshawaii.org for the retail booths that’ll be available starting Friday and through the weekend.
Happy Girls Day, Kaua‘i! Thursday is the third day of the third month, and traditionally celebrated as Girls Day.
