LIHU‘E — The Pat Baniaga Division games of Kaua‘i Senior Softball, for players 70 and older, continue on Fridays at Isenberg Park, starting at 9 a.m.
Long after the dust from the inaugural games has settled, talk about the division, labeled “Super Seniors,” “70s Division” and more continue to fuel community discussions at various events around the island.
The division consists of four teams — Na Koa Kupuna with coaches Ale Lomosad and Winky Hashimoto, the Koloa Cane Cutters with coach John Patt, the Ahukini Wharf Rats coached by Peter Rayno and Cliff Lee, and the Tsunami coached by Dave “Doc” Sable.
“The Baniaga division is designed to give our elder kupuna ballplayers an opportunity to continue playing the game they love, to maintain long-held friendships with other players, and to continue practicing a healthy lifestyle,” said Patt, one of the steering coaches to the inaugural games.
Kaua‘i Senior Softball continues to play Saturday with games at Kaumakani and Peter Rayno Sr. Park in Hanama‘ulu.
The first pitch at both sites go off at 9 a.m.
