HANALEI — John Gordon of the North Shore Lions Club announced the club is accepting scholarship applications for its 2022 scholarship program.
The deadline for students applying for this year’s scholarships is to be postmarked by April 30.
Application forms are available at the Kapa‘a High School counselor’s office, the Island School financial aid office, the Kaua‘i Christian Academy principal’s office, or online at the North Shore Lions Club website, kauainorthshorelions.org.
To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must be a full-time student who carries a grade-point average of 2.0 or better and lives on the North Shore between Moloa‘a and Ha‘ena.
“For more than 30 years, the North Shore Lions Club has awarded scholarships to deserving students of Kaua‘i’s North Shore to support and encourage continuing education,” Gordon said in an email.
“Individuals who have previously received scholarships are encouraged to submit applications if they are continuing their studies. We also encourage those who are attending qualified trade schools to submit applications as well,” he said.
Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic performance, leadership, community involvement and volunteerism.
Applicants must also include all of the required documents listed in the application.
“We are again particularly grateful for the kind generosity of the Steve and Janine Hunt Family Foundation for their $20,000 donation to the North Shore Lions’ scholarship fund,” Gordon said.
“Also, a big mahalo to the Aloha Roofing (Supply) company for their donation of $3,000, and the Miranda Helicopter Group. This brings the total amount of $48,000 to be distributed to North Shore students to help with their education.”
Last year, the North Shore Lions Club, established in 1982 to serve Kaua‘i’s North Shore communities, awarded more than $40,000 to help students with college expenses.
