LIHU‘E — The Girl Scout Cookies are here!
Thursday morning, workers from Royal Hawaiian Moving and volunteers cracked open shipping containers holding cases of Girl Scout cookies at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center.
Angela Hoover, the Girl Scout Regional Island Coordinator for Kaua‘i, said they were anticipating about 2,000 cases arriving, but due to problems with shipping, only about two-thirds of the shipment arrived.
That did not deter the individual troops from picking up their orders and start delivering the pre-orders to customers that started in January.
“We’ll be opening the retail booths starting Friday,” Hoover said. “The easiest way to find them is to go to the website gshawaii.org, type in a zip code in the Cookie Finder and a listing of retail booth sales appears. By clicking on the ‘details,’ more detailed information such as hours appear.”
Melissa McFerrin-Warrack, the special leasing and events coordinator for the Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, is excited about securing authorization to have Times Supermarket serve as a retail booth for this year’s crop of cookies that will be available until March 31, or as supplies last.
“I’ll be with a Kekaha After School troop at the Big Save store in Waimea,” Hoover said. “But there is another Big Save in Koloa that’s opening from 4 to 6 p.m. The Times Supermarket at Kukui Grove will be open from 4 to 9 p.m., Friday, and also on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Walmart will have a troop selling on Friday from 4 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.”
Among the Girl Scout Cookies being vended, Adventurefuls is the new flavor, described as an “indulgent brownie-inspired cookie topped with caramel flavored creme with a hint of sea salt. Adventurefuls join the lineup of other favorites including Samoas, Do-si-dos, Girl Scout S’mores, Lemon-Ups, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Thin Mints, and Toffee-tastic.
Hoover encouraged Girl Scout cookie lovers to get their favorites early because this is the only time of the year the Girl Scout cookies are available.
