Michie N. Munechika
Michie N. Munechika passed away on Jan. 8, 2022, at the age of 84, in ‘Ele‘ele. She was born on Sept. 22, 1937, in Waimea and was a retired library technician at the Hanapepe Public Library.
She was preceded in death by her mother Asae Kaneko, father Masaki Nishi, step-father Katoru Kaneko, brother Tatsuo Nishi and son-in-law Myles Domingcil.
Michie is survived by her husband Noboru Munechika of Lihu‘e, sons Mel Munechika of Kaua‘i, Guy (Julie) Munechika of O‘ahu, daughter Eve (Myles) Domingcil of Kaua‘i, grandchildren Natalie (Brandon) Wilson, Melissa (Joe) Cook, Bo (Nani) Domingcil, Aaron (Kyrie Simeona) Domingcil, Kai (Alexandria Yamada) Munechika and Drew (Hannah Garcia) Munechika, great-grandchildren Ethan and Ozzy Wilson, Joshua and Ava Cook, Trent and Sophie Domingcil, Hayden, Lily, Kahiau and Jesse Domingcil, sisters Kiyomi Nishi-Berry of Louisiana, Lena (Wesley) Tanaka of O‘ahu, Gail Kaneko of O‘ahu, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. followed by service at 11:15 a.m. The family has requested casual attire and no flowers.
For everyone’s health and safety and with no judgment, the family respectfully asks that those who attend the celebration of life be fully vaccinated, wear a mask and follow other local COVID-19 protocols.
Andrew Keoki DeRego, Sr.
Andrew Keoki DeRego, Sr. passed away on Jan. 23, 2022, at the age of 59, in Kapa‘a. He was born on June 4, 1962, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. He was a tile setter.
He is survived by his significant other Rebecca Kolowena Au, sons Andrew Keoki (Crystal) DeRego, Jr. of Kapa‘a and Raymond Makana Au of Chicago, Illinois, daughters Brookes Kahikilani (David) Cavaco of Ewa Beach, Hawai‘i, Cheyanne Nohelani (David) Mahuka of Lihu‘e and Madison Kea Key of Waianae, Hawai‘i, grandchildren Alexia, Axten, Ava, Davris, Christian, Janicee, Jansen, Amber, Jade, Keone, Aria and Cross, great-grandchildren Bella-Jade and Millie, parents Frank Kolomona DeRego III and Doris Daniels, brothers Frank Kolomona (Lani) DeRego IV of Mililani, Hawai‘i, Daniel Nalei (Pili) DeRego of Laupahoehoe, Hawai‘i, sisters Laverne DeRego of Nanakuli, Hawai‘i, Francine DeRego of Hilo, Hawai‘i and Doris Komomua of Waianae, Hawai‘i, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at Garden Island Mortuary on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022. A walk-through visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome. Due to COVID-19, face mask and social distancing are required.

James Caronilla Simbre
James Caronilla Simbre passed away on Feb. 1, 2022, at the age of 73, in Kekaha. He was born on June 20, 1948, in Wahiawa, O‘ahu. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his brothers William Domingo, Pancing Lopez, Domingo Lopez and Eugene Ventura and his sisters Leonita Jeffries and Beatrice Simbre.
James is survived by his son Joshua Godfrey of Kaua‘i, daughter Naomi Lee of O‘ahu, grandchildren Liana Pave, Pakela Godfrey-Kaohi, Ian Godfrey-Kaohi, Kawelo Kalani-Godfrey and Nahokulani Kalani-Godfrey, parents Urbano Sudaria Simbre and Mary Caronilla Simbre, brothers Lorenzo Simbre of Kaua‘i, Stephen Simbre of Hawai‘i, Richard Simbre (Linda) of O‘ahu, Urbano (Robin) Simbre, Jr. of O‘ahu, Edward Ventura of California, Robert Ventura (Carol) of O‘ahu, sisters Jane Ringor of O‘ahu, Elizabeth Jardin of Texas, Shirley R (Wayne) Simbre-Medeiros of Kaua‘i, numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be at Salt Pond main pavilion Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The family request casual attire and flowers are welcome.

Dallas Vernon Kauaolikokalani Brun
Dallas Vernon Kauaolikokalani Brun passed away on Jan. 24, 2022, at the age of 26 in Lawa‘i. He was born on March 6, 1995, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He was a homemaker.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Anthony (Braddah) Wong, Vernon and Lorraine Brun, Aunty Lisa Brun and Uncle Vernon Brun.
Dallas is survived by his mother Anelle (Burt Rapanot, Jr.) Brun, father Arthur (Ata) Brun, brothers Dalton (Casandra) Brun and Brendan Brun, sisters Qiyrah Rapanot, Hannah Brun and Faith Brun, nieces Tiah Brun, Talia Brun, Teily Brun, Tairee Brun, grandmother Anora Peralta, hanai family Chris and Mary Rapacon, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, at Westside Christian Center (Stone Church) in Kekaha. Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by service. Casual attire and flowers are welcome. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required.

Barbara Sue McAllister
Barbara Sue McAllister, 79, passed away peacefully in her Hanapepe home surrounded by her ‘Ohana and friends on Feb. 7, 2022. Services will be private, but every time you hear a chatty, left-winged red bird, you can smile knowing that she is in a very happy place!
Barbara Sue found joy in her lovely drawings and creative writings. She was born in Oklahoma City and was proud of her Choctaw Indian heritage. She enjoyed reading, completing mind and memory games, and sharing wonderful moments with her friends and family. She was grateful for all the wonderful memories and support by everyone on the island over the last 20 years.
She is survived by her two sons Bruce (Kurstin and their son, Carter), Eric (Stefanie and their sons Luke and Liam). She will be truly missed by her loving sister Patty, and niece Dawn, who both helped her to the very end of this journey. She will be missed by Patty’s daughters Christian, Reina, son Brian, and grandchildren, her beloved brother Scott (Ann, sons Michael, Christopher, and daughter Amy, grandchildren and great children), and many special people in her life including Joanna, Becky, Iris, Michelle, Grace, and Brenda.
Monica Anohea Davis
Monica Anohea Davis passed away in Abilene, Texas, surrounded by family and friends on Jan. 17, 2022. She was born on Nov. 14, 1968, in Waimea and was an Outreach Specialist with Draco Services.
She was preceded in death by parent Richard Davis, grandparents Anderson and Sophie Kilauano, Henry Peralta Sr., William and Marilyn Mossman, and son Blaze Lopez.
Monica is survived by parents Glenn and Vida Mossman, Henry Peralta Jr., daughters Taylor (Brian) Imaoka, Ashlea Cacal, life-partner Colin Young, grandmother Trinidad Peralta, sister Kaulana Mossman, brothers Jason (Brandy) Peralta, Joshua (Darian) Peralta, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kekaha, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by services. A private burial will occur at a future date. Family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers. Due to COVID-19 and in the best interest of those in attendance, social distancing and masks are required.
Veronica ‘Vergie’ Ann Colobong
A native Hawaiian, she was born on Feb. 13, 1951, in Lihu‘e on the island of Kaua‘i, to the late Manuel and Alma Soares, Jr. Veronica married James Colobong on March 22, 1974. They shared 36 years of marriage prior to his passing on April 18, 2010.
She is survived by her children, Scot Pacanas, Tina (Craig) Ferreira, Robin Colobong, her brother Manuel Soares, seven grandchildren Timothy Kanehe, Jr., Travis Kanehe, Tiffany Kanehe, Kasey Ferreira, Alexis Ferreira, Tegan Ferreira and Caleb Pacanas-Prem and by numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, two daugthers Shriley Pacanas and Carrie Colobong and a brother Peter Soares preceded Veronica in death. Keeping with her wishes there will be no services.
Julio Parbo
Julio Parbo passed away on Feb. 11, 2022, at his residence, at the age of 82. He was born on Sept. 3, 1940, in Batac, Ilocos Norte. He was a Sugar Factory Plant Processor with Kekaha Sugar.
He was preceded in death by his wife Catalina Parbo, parents Eustaquio and Ceriaca Parbo, his brothers Felix, Rizalino and Alfredo Parbo, sisters Filomina Pacunayen, Benita Caluya, Antonia Siruet and Leonara Peralta
Julio is survived by daughter Luz (Orlando) Austria of Waimea, Kaua‘i, 4 grandchildren Albert (Maybeline) Parbo, Janice (Charlie) Bahet, Evelyn Parbo and Michelle (Alton Shimatsu) Austria, seven great-grandchildren CJ, and Charice Bahet, Edward and RJ Medeiros, Zayden, Harley, and Harper Shimatsu, one great-great-grandchild Kairus Bahet, sisters Victoria Parbo of Philippines, sisters-in-law Cornelia Parbo of California and Virginia Parbo of Kekaha and by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held.

Karen Whitson
Karen Whitson passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2022, into Jesus’ loving arms. Karen died of stage 4 liver cancer 3 weeks and a day from the time of her diagnosis.
She was 73 years old, born March 9, 1948, in San Francisco, California. Karen graduated from Mercy High School before starting a career with United Airlines.
Karen was preceded in death by her loving parents Doug and Toni Rosa. She is survived by Mark Whitson, her husband of 40 years, sisters Kate Rosa of Truckee, California, Laura Martin of St. Augustine, Florida, many nieces and nephews.
Karen volunteered 13 years for Meals on Wheels and was the first female Director of St. Vincent DePaul in Fremont, California. She moved to Kaua‘i in 2009 and volunteered at the St. Catherine’s Food Pantry in Kapa‘a for 9 years and was active in the church.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday Feb. 16, 2022, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and services to follow at 11 a.m.
Karen’s motto was “Make memories, not regrets.”
Robert Defuntorum Juliano
Robert Defuntorum Juliano, 47, of Puhi, passed away at home on Jan. 16, 2022. He was born in Bacag Villasis, Pangasinan, Philippines on Aug. 12, 1974.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rodolfo and Hilaria Juliano, maternal grandparents Eduardo and Esmerenciana Defuntorum, paternal grandparents Dionicio and Susana Derige Juliano.
Robert is survived by his sons Nicholas Jesper G. Palmquist, Ashton J. Gambeng-Juliano, both of Oregon, siblings John D. Juliano, Julie Ann D. Juliano (Fredie) Ramos, Juanito D. (Maribel) Juliano, Mary Ann D. (Rolando) Ballesteros, Janette D. Juliano, Ferdinand D. (Madelyn) Juliano, Aunty Leonida Defuntorum Leones, Aunty Leyte Juliano, numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home with viewing beginning from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Social distancing and masks will be observed.

William Fukuichi Morita
William Fukuichi Morita passed away on Feb. 4, 2022, at the age of 90, in Lihu‘e. He was born on Aug. 12, 1931. He was an airlines ticket agent for Aloha Airlines and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hajime and Yei Morita, brothers Haruo Morita, Kaoru Morita and Mitsuo Morita and sister Mabel Senda.
William is survived by his wife Sanae Morita of Lihu‘e, sons Brent (Yasuko) Morita of California, Stuart (Kimberly) Morita of Kaua‘i, daughter Sabrina Irish of O‘ahu, grandchildren Tiana Heister, Shane Irish, Lilli Morita, Aspen Starr, Sage Wuest, great-grandchildren Raiden, Te‘a, Kaile‘a and Bryce Heister, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at Lihue Christian Church on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022. Visitation is at 9 to 10 a.m., followed by service at 10 a.m. Casual attire suggested and omits flowers.
