WAIMEA — The Kapa‘a boys varsity basketball team remains undefeated following Saturday’s Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation matches that took place at the Island School gym in Puhi and Clem Gomes Gym in Waimea.
Keaka Kauhane fired off 18 points, including a pair of three-balls, and Kala Rall finished with 13 points, including three from outside the three-point arc, to lead the varsity Warriors ahead of Waimea, 59-30 at the Clem Gomes Gym, where a lot of Kapa‘a fans took advantage of Saturday night to journey to the Westside.
Kelani Lewis had the hot hand for Waimea, launching three distance balls toward his 11 points. Tresten Shigematsu and Anson Lazaro each finished with six points in the effort.
At the Wilcox Gymnasium on the Island School campus in Puhi, Ethan Smith took the scoring lead for the varsity Raiders with 12 points, with Mareyon Cromartie and Mikey Manera each adding 10 points to keep Kaua‘i ahead of Island School, 56-32.
Lukas Myers and Josh Dobashi each netted a dozen points, Myers ending with a pair of treys, to lead the Island School effort. Reid Brown finished with five points, and Lucas Summerhays fired off a three-ball in the opening frame.
The junior varsity Warriors went to the long ball to surge past the JV Menehune, 42-33, when both of Kapa‘a’s leading scorers combined to launch six three balls in the win. Scully Tristen launched four treys toward his game-total 14 points, and Austin Green nailed two long-distance scores toward his 11-point total.
Jeydon Moises led the Menehune effort on eight points, including a trey, Rhenz Punzalan added six points, and Nakoa Bostick finished with five second-half marks.

The KIF boys hoops tip-off again today when Kaua‘i hosts Waimea and Kapa‘a comes to visit the Voyagers at the Wilcox Gymnasium on the Island School Puhi campus. Tipoff for the JV games is at 5:30 p.m. at both sites, with the varsity games to follow 20 minutes following the completion of the JV games.
