LIHU‘E — The state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office announced 40 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.
Sunday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 224, with nine hospitalized, and 11,508 cumulative cases.
More-detailed information on new cases is available on the DOH COVID-19 data dashboard, viewable at health.hawaii.gov/coronavirusdisease2019/current-situation-in-hawaii/.

Due to the high volume of cases, DOH case investigators will generally contact known COVID-19-positive cases several days after positive tests are recorded.
With the shortened isolation period, in some instances case investigators will not be able to reach the case before the end of the isolation period.
Anyone receiving a positive result should isolate at home and notify close contacts and workplaces or schools. Isolation and quarantine guidance are available at the DOH website, hawaii.gov, under the Home-Isolation-and-Quarantine-Guidance.pdf.
For more information about isolation and quarantine, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html.
Free vaccinations are offered islandwide. Vaccinations are available to anyone 5 years of age or older and are free, safe and effective. For details on the vaccination sites, visit kauai.gov/vaccine.
Free testing is also available islandwide. For a full list of testing sites and more details, visit kauai.gov/covidtest.
