LIHU‘E — For the third consecutive day, the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office has announced COVID-19 related fatalities.
Thursday, the KDHO reported two fatalities, one of a female visitor in her 60s who was hospitalized and a male resident in his 90s who was not in the hospital.
To date, the county has recorded 24 COVID-19 deaths.
“While our cases are declining, we have announced five fatalities this week,” Mayor Derek Kawakami said Thursday in a release. “This is a harsh reminder that we need to continue to take this virus seriously and remain vigilant. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of these individuals. Their loved ones are in our prayers and have our deepest condolences.”
Thursday, officials reported 88 new infections, bringing the county’s number of active, recorded cases to 308, with six hospitalized. According to the Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency, one is in the intensive care unit.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the county has seen 11,340 cumulative cases.
Saturday, Ho‘ola Lahui Hawai‘i will host two walk-in vaccine clinics open to everyone aged 5 and older. In Kapa‘a, the team will be at the Ho‘ola Lahui Hawai‘i Kaua‘i Community Health Center behind Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital from 9 to 11 a.m., and at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea from 9 to 11 a.m.
A free testing site at Kaua‘i War Memorial Conventional Hall in Lihu‘e is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A mobile testing clinic will be at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center today from 1 to 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
