NAWILIWILI — The Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank staff and board of directors welcomed a $16,000 contribution by representatives of Kaua‘i’s credit unions Wednesday.
The contribution represents efforts of the Kaua‘i’s credit unions’ food drive that was conducted recently in adherence to COVID-19 rules and restrictions for health and safety.
The participating credit unions include the Gather Federal Credit Union, the Kaua‘i Federal Credit Union (formerly the Kaua‘i Government Employees Federal Credit Union), Garden Island Federal Credit Union, and the Kaua‘i Teachers Federal Credit Union.
Kelvin Moniz, the KIFB executive director, said the funds will go toward maintaining its current programs, including kupuna shopping, the Keiki Backpack program, and after-school nutritious snacks. The KIFB offers weekly emergency food distribution on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. that serves about a hundred families a week.
