LIHU‘E — Feb. 18 is the deadline for nonprofit organizations to contact Lori Almarza, acting director of the Kaua‘i United Way, indicating intent to apply for KUW funding.
Following the contact by calling 808-245-2043 or emailing info@kauaiunitedway.org, applicant organizations will be issued instructions on how to apply for funding.
The KUW invites nonprofit organizations that provide human services to the people of Kaua‘i to apply for KUW funding for the period from July 2022 through June 2023.
To be eligible for KUW funding, organizations must be able to demonstrate that they:
• Have been providing services that are important to the people of Kaua‘i for a period of at least two years;
• Receive broad community support;
• Have held Internal Revenue Service 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status for at least two years;,
• Have an active, responsible board of directors who serve without compensation;
• Conduct work in a responsible and ethical manner;
• Make annual program and financial reports available to the public;
• Seek funding from additional sources, as described in the KUW Principles of Admission;
• Support the KUW annual campaign among their staff and the community;
• Assist the KUW annual campaign and special events throughout the year;
• Work cooperatively with other KUW participating agencies;
• Can meet other requirements deemed necessary for compliance with KUW policies.
Applicant organizations need to complete an extensive application, starting with notifying Almarza, describing their programs and documenting the above eligibility requirements.
A volunteer Allocations Committee will meet following the receiving of the applications to evaluate applications and interview applicants.
Organizations accepted as participating agencies agree to provide periodic financial reports, and to allow KUW representatives to examine their financial records as deemed necessary.
While participating agencies devote their fundraising efforts to the entire community by joining the KUW annual campaign during the Shared Fundraising Period of September and October, the organizations are free to fundaise on their own the other 10 months of the year.
