WAIMEA — Menehune Road at the site of a rockslide that happened the first week of January was reopened last week, but work to stabilize the slope continues.
Upcoming work includes installing erosion-control measures, according to officials. The work will require road closures Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The county Department of Public Works Roads Division is providing road-closure signs, a messaging board, traffic-safety barriers and personnel on-site (as needed) to assist with access control. Beginning Feb. 1, county bridge-repair contractor Kaikor Construction will conduct additional safety measures to stabilize the historic Waimea swinging bridge.
Temporary repairs are anticipated to start to restore pedestrian access across the Waimea River, but the permanent repair will not occur for several months due to special-order materials.
