WAIMEA — Waimea Plantation Cottages’ on-site restaurant is undergoing a transformation as management completes upgrades meant to cement the spot in the Westside community.
New additions include permanent outdoor seating, cornhole, more TVs and a revamped sports bar with a high-tech, self-serve “beer wall” at the center of a grand-opening celebration this Saturday.
“We want to be designed for locals, but we want to be welcome to all,” Executive Manager Clayton Weber said Tuesday, as he and General Manager Josh Sabio put the finishing touches on the beer wall.
Weber gestured to the ceiling above the bar, where a surfboard autographed by the Kaua‘i Fire Department’s Waimea station now hangs, to illustrate the restaurant’s vision for the future.
“We really want this place to be something that says, ‘We are of here, not some random place introduced here,’” Weber explained. “Like that surfboard from the fire department. We’re hoping others follow suit … We’d love to get into the high school, have the sports teams sign a board and put it up.”
The beer wall’s Saturday debut will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the restaurant’s weekend hours of operation.
The first 50 patrons to use the 20-tap beer wall — which utilizes wristwatch-like devices and touchscreen monitors to track servings and provide in-depth information on each pour — will receive a $50 gift card.
Hourly raffles for merchandise bundles, shave ice for keiki and games of cornhole will also be available.
Live music will be played from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
February events
Other events will follow in February, according to Weber.
The eatery, which offers menus from Da Pizza Place, Chicken In A Barrel BBQ and The Barrel Taps under a single roof, will host theme nights throughout the month.
The schedule includes half-off cocktails for ladies on Sundays, a discounted beer menu for locals on Tuesdays, “Wings Wednesdays,” live music on Thursdays, trivia on Fridays, and a discounted beer menu for military members on Saturdays.
The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays.
