Vicky’s Fabrics is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, but Vicky Masuoka says she’s been sewing for longer than the store has been open.
She says Vicky’s Fabrics has been doing Mu‘umu‘u Month ever since Shannon Hiramoto started the current campaign, but she’s been sewing mu‘umu‘us long before then. She said a mu‘umu‘u shopper in Honolulu found several in a store that still has her name attached to the garments.
She said for the month of January, all the people at Vicky’s Fabrics wear mu‘umu‘u on Fridays for Mu‘umu‘u month…sounds like something to check out.
Vicky’s Fabrics is sponsoring the Miniature Quilt Display that will be part of the Kaua‘i Quilt Show when the exhibit opens on Feb. 11 with a Meet the Quilters reception (don’t forget to wear a mask and sign the guest register for contact tracing) at the KSA gallery at the Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e (did anyone else see the fabric bags put out by Toni Wass at the Small Works/Big Show?).
Santa (in Paradise), aka Phil Worwa, tried to go undercover on Wednesday at the Pop Up Farmers Market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula. But, the voice was a dead giveaway. Brooklyn (with the multiple choice surnames, Butler? Owens?) from Arizona was thrilled to meet the jolly soul of the holidays while helping grandma Flora Worth with market monitoring duty.
Mahalo Chef Glen Hayakawa for those treats using Sustainable Boost powders in the Chef Judy Capertina-created sweets at Haole Girl Island Sweets.
Gotta check out new chef Alicia Hayakawa at the Kaua‘i Bowl snack shop and the specially mixed burgers…do they butterfly the hot dogs?
OK, it’s Friday – time to return to Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation sports…
