NAWILIWILI — A sold-out field of 120 golfers raised more than $20,000 on Saturday during the Hawai‘i Lodging &Tourism Association Kaua‘i Chapter 17th annual Golf Tournament at the Hokuala Ocean Course.
This was the second year the tournament was directed by safety and health rules due to COVID-19, with the field being limited to the 120-golfer capacity.
Premier Restoration was the title sponsor for the tournament, where proceeds and sponsorships support the HLTA Kaua‘i Chapter education programs, scholarships and other association-related programs.
In addition to the registrations, other fundraising efforts included donations from various community groups and businesses that filled the silent-auction table, and a continental breakfast by Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative that was manned by student volunteers from the Hui Ho‘okipa program at Kaua‘i High School.
Individual hole sponsorships were also available, along with contests for closest to the line, longest drive, hole in one and on/off the green at all par three holes.
Prize awards for the field included the 17th-place team in celebration of the 17th year the tournament has been held, and additional random team picks with prizes including hotel stays, gift cards and premiums from local sponsors.
Samira Siale, the HLTA, Kaua‘i Chapter director, said the golf tournament that is tied to the annual Kaua‘i Visitor Charity Walk was carried off successfully through the cooperation of the Hokuala Golf Club people working closely with health and government officials to stay safe during the pandemic. HLTA officials in Honolulu are currently monitoring the pandemic conditions closely to see if the charity walk, an event that traditionally takes place in May, can materialize after being canceled last year.
