LIHU‘E — Sunday, the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office announced 187 new cases of COVID-19 on the island.

These cases bring the number of active cases to 1,103, with seven hospitalized.
To date, the county has recorded 5,694 cumulative cases.
Vaccines for those ages 5 to 11 are available at Walmart, Longs Drugs in Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e and Kaiser Permanente.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expanded eligibility of booster doses to those 12 to 15 years old.
The CDC now recommends that adolescents ages 12 to 17 should receive a booster shot five months after their initial Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination series. At this time, only the Pfizer vaccine is authorized and recommended for adolescents aged 12 to 17.
Also last week, the CDC reduced the interval for receiving a booster shot for people who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines from six months to five months. The booster interval recommendation remains unchanged for people who received the Johnson &Johnson vaccine (two months).

Testing, vaccination and mask wearing are all great but what is being done on the treatment front. People who are testing positive are being told to go home and isolate. What about treatment? Most Kauaians are vaccinated yet we have more people contracting the virus.
There doing everything they can really if we’re going to point fingers the truth is we don’t have the space to accommodate everyone that’s why it’s important to get vaccinated point blank get your shots and the virus is less Likely to hurt you.
