The fine folks at Kaua‘i Bakery (that guava malasada was a winner!) are back from their “vacation,” and Barbara Oki of Oki Bento is seriously looking at doing her corn chowder again. Lots of bacon and corn, Barbara said.
Senior softball players (Jeffrey Kimoto calls it “kupuna softball”) Ronnie Matsumura and Ernie Domingo were ready to go with the first games that opened the season (no opening ceremonies because of the COVID-19 protocols) at Isenberg Park (did Ron Wood make the reserve list for the Aloha Kia Lihu‘e A’s?) and Kaumakani parks. Kudos, Michael Curtis, and the many hands that make this league go!
Kudos, Shannon Hiramoto, for getting support from Gov. David Ige for celebrating the mu‘umu‘u during January as Mu‘umu‘u Month.
In news not available on the Kaua‘i Society of Artists’ website, congratulations to Lora Finelli, Sally French, Roberta Griffith, Robb Jones, Penny Nichols, Tomoko Ouchi and Natasha Young on getting pieces accepted into Maui’s Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2022 that will be at the Maui Arts &Cultural Center starting today.
The next showing following the KSA’s Small Works/Big Show (its final day was Jan. 7) is the annual Kaua‘i Quilt Show that will open Feb. 11 and continue at the KSA gallery at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e through Feb. 23.
Meanwhile, Mo‘olelo Murals artist Bree Blake had to go to the mainland. Annie Coan was busy replacing the bricks with a happy place on Kress Street, where Dave Andersland and Laura Cristobal Andersland of Salty Wahine became the first customers of the Alakoko Shop after stopping by following their deliveries.
