LIHU‘E — While there isn’t any state road work scheduled this week, according to the state Department of Transporation, there are county projects.
Hanama‘ulu
Sections of ‘Akuli Street and Hanamaʻulu Road will be under short lane closures from Tuesday to Friday, Jan. 4 to 7, according to the county Department of Public Works and Goodfellow Bros. LLC.
Work is scheduled Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The lane closures are necessary to begin work for improvements to pedestrian access to King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School, including new sidewalks, crosswalks and ADA ramps.
As with all school zones, the speed limit is 15 mph near King Kaumuali’i Elementary School while school is in session.

Koloa
A portion of Po‘ipu Road is under construction from today through Jan. 21 for the Koloa Safe Routes to School Project, according to the DPW and Pacific Concrete Cutting and Coring Inc.
Work is scheduled weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no road work occurring during the peak traffic times for school drop-off and pick-up.
The Koloa Safe Routes to School Project involves improvements to pedestrian access to the school, including new sidewalks, crosswalks and ADA ramps.
