Over $70,000 was granted to nine Kaua‘i nonprofit social service agencies through this year’s Christmas Fund.
“On behalf of the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation Christmas Fund Committee and our partner The Garden Island Newspaper, we extend our warmest holiday wishes to the 500 recipients of our recent Christmas Fund and hope that we were able to make your lives a bit brighter,” Cyndi Ayonon, Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation Christmas Fund chair, said.
These groups distributed gift cards to needy clients, like Andrea, 58, who was previously homeless with health and addiction concerns.
Through the help of a permanent supportive housing program, Andrea has received case management and housing assistance and has been working to secure a part-time job. Andrea works on mending her relationship with her loved ones and hopes to be able to unite with them in person soon. With the help of the Christmas Fund, she could receive cooking utensils and food.
The Christmas Fund also contributed to the holidays of Alex, 72, who, due to some unexpected medical issues and COVID restrictions, was unable to visit family this year.
“We are blessed and grateful that we have been able to continue this tradition for over 30 years, thanks to the generous contributions given by our community and friends of Kaua‘i,” Ayonon said. “From the bottom of our heart, stay safe and take care! Remember, an act of kindness goes a long way!”
