The HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union family recently donated $300 to the Zonta Christmas Fund.
Maile lives with her dad, stepmom and two younger siblings. COVID-19 has created hardships for the family, and for Maile in particular.
With the limitations that the pandemic put on travel and seeing loved ones, Maile was not able to visit with her mother for a very long time.
As Maile is able to visit with her mother now, she would love decorations for her room in her mother’s house to make it feel like home as she becomes familiar with that environment again.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island is sharing daily, front-page stories about families and individuals (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges and who would appreciate a little help.
The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are in turn distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrative costs involved, and money goes directly to provide for those in need of Christmas presents and groceries.

Anyone making a donation of $150 or more can have their picture published in TGI.
Donations may be made by way of the website, Zonta-Kauai.org, or checks can be made payable to The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation and mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
• Tyler is a 46-year-old male that was chronically homeless, but was assisted through a permanent-supportive-housing program, and has been housed for the past three years. Tyler is currently receiving treatment for his substance-abuse and mental issues, and has done well to adapt to his surroundings. Tyler works each day to keep his home tidy and attends weekly therapy sessions. A clock, calendar and a basket to keep his mail and important papers together will help Tyler to be organized.
• John recently began participating in an outpatient-treatment program. A couple of months ago, the mother of his daughters died in a car accident, and now the kids are living on another island with their aunt. All John wants is his kids, but, unfortunately, at this time he is houseless and living in his car. John would really like to have a traditional Christmas dinner with all of his children, and be able to give them at least one gift. He hopes to show his kids that even though their mom is gone that their dad is here for them and loves them unconditionally.
