LIHU‘E — ‘Ohana Night is a perfect way to unwind following a week of work, enjoy some time to get the mind ready for the holiday activity schedule and savor the atmosphere of Christmas past at the Grove Farm Museum.
“There will be free hot cocoa like last year,” said Paul Horner, Grove Farm Museum director. “Hot cocoa goes well with the cookies prepared in the museum’s wood-fired oven and available at the gift shop that will be open. The idea is for the community to come walk through the house before or after some dinner or shopping.”
The free ‘Ohana Night is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for everyone to enjoy the flavor of Christmas and the holidays as celebrated during the plantation-days era.
The false kamani tree anchoring the lawn of the 100-acre homestead in Lihu‘e will be lit up and available for people to sit and relax under and watch the last vestiges of day ending the work week with the free cup of hot chocolate.
Inside the house, a classic Norfolk will be done up as in days past, with some of the ornaments coming from the original Wilcox family collection.
The staff and their company of friends take advantage of this free ‘Ohana Night to unleash their creativity in reliving the days of their childhood days memories of holidays when grandma did this, or mom and dad used to do that.
The Grove Farm Museum is the preservation efforts of the homestead that was acquired in 1864 by George N. Wilcox.
The 100-acre homestead available for touring or special events includes the original plantation main house, owner’s cottage, guest cottage, old office and other resident and plantation workers’ housing.
