PUHI — Seven-year-old River is an active boy who loves riding bikes and playing video games.
He has been in a caring, loving resource family for at least five of his seven years. His father abandoned the family and his mother was unable to care for him on a full-time basis. They have visits, but not often enough for River, and this makes him sad.
River has difficulty sleeping at night because of the bad memories that he has from when he was young. He would appreciate a few comfort items to help calm him down so he can get a decent night’s rest.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share daily, front-page stories about families (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges and who would appreciate a little help.
The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are in turn distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrative costs involved, and money goes directly to provide for those in need of Christmas presents and groceries.

Anyone making a donation of $150 or more can have their picture published in TGI.

w George, a 75-year-old widower, has had a tough year. The isolation of COVID restrictions have been hard on him since he has not been able to meet up with his coffee buddies as usual and recently he has been diagnosed with cancer.
His children are not as supportive as he would like and he kind of feels alone in his fight. George is a kind man who always has a smile for those he meets. A little extra cheer this holiday season would go a long way to lifting his spirits.
w Seventy-year-old Edwin always has a smile and a kind word for anyone he meets despite the difficulty in his personal life.
Edwin has quite a few physical ailments and goes to dialysis three days a week.
In addition to his diabetes, he also has heart issues and difficulty walking. Edwin’s wife of 36 years, Sara, also has some health issues but tries to help him as much as she can.
Even though times are tough and medical bills eat into their limited income they still manage to enjoy each day together. A little extra holiday cheer would certainly bring added joy to their lives.
