Frankie and Finley have finally been able to find housing after years of being homeless.
Being in a home has been an adjustment, and learning to navigate this new normal has been a struggle for the entire family.
This year, they would appreciate any household items and supplies, laundry supplies and some toys for their son who enjoys playing with cars and building things.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island is sharing daily, front-page stories about families and individuals (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges and who would appreciate a little help.
The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are in turn distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrative costs involved, and money goes directly to provide for those in need of Christmas presents and groceries.
If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund, let us know and we’ll spread the word.
Anyone making a donation of $150 or more can have their picture published in TGI.
Donations may be made by way of the website, Zonta-Kauai.org, or checks can be made payable to The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation and mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
w Abilee is a young, previously homeless female who works low-paying jobs and is struggling to make ends meet. Abilee has moved into supportive housing in hopes of being able to save money, gain better employment and move into permanent housing. With funds being tight, Abilee would appreciate help with household supplies, beddings and a gift card for groceries.
w Malia is a kind-hearted, caring teen healing from abuse from a family member. Malia’s family immigrated from Europe when she was young, and many of her family members remain overseas and are unable to support her in her healing. English is not Malia’s first language, which makes finding a sense of belonging challenging for her. Malia is currently in foster care and wishes to become a nurse or teacher so she can help others. She is hoping for clothes that she can wear to school so she can feel comfortable and confident in what she’s wearing.
