NAWILIWILI — The inclement weather may have kept the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank from making its appearance for food drives at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.
But the weather did not stop Allison Mizuo Lee and Kimberly Torigoe, representing the Kaua‘i Bar Association, from visiting the KIFB facility in Nawiliwili to present the results of an association fundraising effort for the food bank.
Kelvin Moniz, KIFB executive director, accepted two awards — a $5,000 contribution from the Cades Foundation and $3,500 raised by contributing lawyers affiliated with the Kaua‘i Bar Association.
Moniz said the funds are greatly appreciated because of the higher demand for food during the holiday season and the current recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The inclement weather and its potential for creating damage pose additional challenges for food because the food bank responds to emergency food needs created by natural disasters.
