LIHU‘E — Conor Hunt, the son of former county Finance Director Steve Hunt, was one of seven Georgetown University football players named to the All-Patriot League first team in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Conor Hunt, a punter and place kicker playing his first year of college football as a sophomore at Georgetown, was one of three Hoyas named to the All-Patriot League First Team. He is joined by Joshua Tomas and Ahmad Wilson on the All-Patriot League First Team.
Zach Jewell, Talati Polamalu, Ibrahi Kamara and Owen Kessler earned Second-Team honors in voting by the league’s seven head coaches.
“While he handled all of the kicking duties, including kickoffs, placekicking and punting at Georgetown, his punting is what set him apart,” said Steve Hunt in an email. “His longest kick for the year was 66 yards, and Conor also broke the single-season punt-average record for the Hoyas, which had previously been 38.7 yards.”
During his year on the gridiron, Conor Hunt launched 51 balls down the field for 2,127 yards for an average of 41.7 yards per punt, according to the Georgetown Athletics website. He also dropped 19 balls inside the 20, and booted 10 for at least 50 yards.
Rob Sgarlata, Georgetown head football coach, said Hunt is a combo kicker/punter.
“He has a very strong leg on kickoff and punts, and is accurate on his field goals,” Sgarlata said on the Georgetown website.
Prior to attending Georgetown University, Hunt attended Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy in Kamuela on Hawai‘i Island, serving as a team captain as a senior. He earned All-Big Island Interscholastic Federation Team honors as both a junior and senior. He also set the school record for best punting average and points in a season by a kicker, and helped the Kamakani win a Division II Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association soccer title, when HPA defeated Kapa‘a in Hunt’s senior year.
While his family was still on Kaua‘i, he also played soccer at Island School.
