LIHU‘E — After years of struggling with addiction, Kelly is a year clean.
She works two jobs to make ends meet, and is working to pay off her debts. Working two jobs has been a struggle, but Kelly continues to improve her life.
This holiday season, Kelly would appreciate any assistance. She loves baking and would love any household or baking items.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share daily, front-page stories about families and individuals (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges and who would appreciate a little help.
The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are in turn distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrative costs involved, and money goes directly to provide for those in need of Christmas presents and groceries.
If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund, let us know and we’ll spread the word.
Anyone making a donation of $150 or more can have their picture published in TGI.
Donations may be made by way of the website, Zonta-Kaua‘i.org, or checks can be made payable to The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation and mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
w Lance is your typical teen who loves cars and socializing. Lance is autistic and lives with his single mother. And while he is nonverbal, Lance is so smart. Lance is good with technology and loves going holoholo around Kaua‘i. Lance would love any small blessing such as a scooter to try to cruise around his neighborhood, or clothing, as he is a growing young man.
w Kehau is a young woman with an intellectual disability who lives independently and works part-time. Kehau struggles with medication management and would love a new blood-pressure machine and blood-pressure cuff.
Kehau enjoys sewing, crafting and writing letters to her family and friends.
