Kudos to Emilia Knudsen and Erik Burton of The Kaua‘i Store for establishing the Second (Erik said they had one last year so this is the second) annual (and now it becomes annual because they plan on doing it next holidays) Great Toy Exchange in the Kaua‘i Community Food Pantry space.
The Great Toy Exchange is a great place for kids to get toys for free, and also for parents and groups to move their “gently-used” (not broken!) toys that children have outgrown. And, for those who don’t have either, the Great Toy Exchange can also use help, financially (you get a Santa aloha hat in exchange).
Emilia is doing this as part of The Kaua‘i Kindness Project that is looking for up to 90 young people, especially those in middle school, who volunteer in the community.
These young people become eligible for the Kaua‘i Gold Youth Volunteer Award that will be awarded Feb. 5 during a Valentine’s Day dance, and has fabulous prizes like a Jack Harter Helicopters tour with a limo pick-up and drop-off by Meg and Kip Boots, a mountain tube adventure for four from Kaua‘i Backcountry Adventures, Napali rafting with Na Pali Pirates, and the “Ultimate Ranch Tour of Kipu Ranch” with Kipu Ranch Adventures.
OK, in addition to the crafts offering at the Grove Farm Market on Saturday (parking available at Kaua‘i Community College, too!), Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of Kukui Grove Center said Sweet Pea is heading a pop-up in the former Pier 1 location Saturday, and the shopping center’s Candy Cane Lane opens with giveaways.
Ron Margolis of the Aloha Angels, presented by the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay, will be joining the Bandwagon crew (is mama’s apple thingie going to be available?) in hosting the Battle of the Bands from 2 p.m. at the KGC food court that will be over by the time the Aloha Dance Studio presents its first of three live presentations being done in lieu of its recital that is not going to happen because of the COVID-19 rules.
