LIHU‘E — When doors to Little Pea’s Kaua‘i Pop-Up Holiday Market open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, this will be the first big indoor craft fair at the Kukui Marketplace.
“There hasn’t been any kind of big craft event indoors,” said Peaches of Little Pea’s. “We’re running until 5 p.m., and then, we’re open Sunday, too, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This means people have two days to shop for that special present or gift.”
Melissa McFerrin-Warrack, the Kukui Grove Center specialty leasing manager, said the idea is to create a mini version of the recent Made In Hawai‘i event on O‘ahu, but to have it here on Kaua‘i. The fact that it is inside allows vendors more than a day for customers to enjoy.
There will be more than 20 vendors showing their offerings that range from jewelry, clothing, succulents, baby and infant items, home decor, and even a silent auction benefiting Kaua‘i Hospice. Some of the items in the auction include an Xbox X, a Nintendo Switch, and certificates from Kipu Ranch Adventure and Outfitters Kaua‘i.
The COVID-19 pandemic has stymied any kind of fundraising efforts for Kaua‘i Hospice, save the Lanterns of Love that will be illuminated starting Dec. 8 and run through Jan. 31, 2022, at the Kaua‘i Hospice Pahe‘e Street offices. Lanterns that will be illuminated from 6 to 9 p.m. through the viewing period are available at kauaihospice.org/lanterns-of-love/.
There will be someone from Kaua‘i Hospice at the site both days to talk about Lanterns of Love and help those interested in getting lanterns dedicated to loved ones.
Admission to the Little Pea’s Kaua‘i Pop-Up Holiday Market is free.
“We are registered with the county’s Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency,” Peaches said. “That means shoppers need to have proof of vaccine or a negative COVID-19 test result. We will have a doctor, Dr. Dawn Sparks, the same doctor who was on-site during the Hawai‘i Children’s Theatre’s “Moana Jr.” at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall, to help people with rapid COVID testing. We just ask that people bring their medical insurance card and identification.”
